Year 2012 Brings A Boom Of Users On Internet Explorer

Last year Microsoft’s Internet Explorer settled for a 50% usage share but this year it has progressed positively and the figures have helped Microsoft dodge the pronouncement of death of its browser. IE recorded minor growth in the month of March as well, which came as a result of a downfall in the number of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox users.

At the same time Safari has also seen a decline in the number of its users, which was not actually surprising. Moreover, Firefox has been seen taking to a defensive strategy as it has faced stiff competition from Google’s Chrome.

Lately, Internet Explorer gained a good number of users with a world-wide gain of around 1.2 percent usage share in the period of the last five months. Internet Explorer has now stabilized and even started regaining its usage share that has been falling continuously for the past few years. In a small period of just three months of 2012, Microsoft Internet Explorer’s growth has surged from 51.87 percent usage share to 53.8 percent. Gaining 2 percentage points in such a short span of time is a good sign. Usage for both of its prime competitors, Chrome and Firefox has fallen in the same period by around a half percent each. Till last year, IE was not performing good, in-fact it was facing a tough time but now it seems that it has turned the game around.

Still, it seems that the Microsoft’s IE9 browser needs to gain some more usage share to beat its own Internet Explorer 8, which appears will be achieved very soon if IE9 goes on like it is at present. Microsoft is working towards promoting its recent growth to its target audience via television and other media. It has launched a television ad campaign and has set-up a Tumblr site to showcase the milestones that IE has attained till today. Microsoft has clearly sensed that Internet Explorer is on its path to recovery and has already initiated the shift towards progress with the help of strategized and well researched improvisations to its older versions.

As usual, the American software giant is emphasizing its successes with the newest IE version, Internet Explorer 9. Microsoft’s director Roger Capriotti expressed in a post to the Exploring IE Blog that IE 9 is overriding rivals on Windows 7 by a huge margin. On a global basis, IE 9 is still dominating usage share with 34.5 percent in comparison with 21.2 percent for Chrome and 13.3 percent for Firefox.
