How to Unlock Bootloader Install TWRP and Root Redmi Note 8

The Xiaomi Redmi Note series has been always a budget-friendly smartphone. The new Redmi Note 8 is the same also. If you are looking forward to rooting this Xiomi Redmi Note 8 then the process is quite the same as the previous version. First, you need to unlock the bootloader of Redmi Note 8 then you need to install TWRP. Last you have to flash magisk to get the root access on your Redmi Note 8. Here I have mentioned all those steps, so go through this to root Redmi Note 8.

How to Root Redmi Note 8

NOTE: Make a backup of all your data including msg, contacts files, images etc.

A. Download Tools

• Download and install Universal ADB Driver
• Download platform tools
• Download  TWRP Recovery
• Download Magisk.Zip  (Don’t unzip it)

B. File Preparation

1. Install the ADB Driver and adb-setup in your PC and reboot it
2. Unzip platform-tools_r29.0.5-windows.zip
3. You will get a folder named platform-tools
4. Unzip TWRP+GINKGO+Redmi+note+8.zip and you will get recovery.img file
5. Now copy-paste the recovery.img &Magisk-v20.1.zip  inside the platform-tools folder

C. Enable USB Debugging, OEM Unlock and bind Mi account with the device

1. Enable Developer option- Goto Settings > About phone > tap MIUI version 7 times.
2. Enable USB Debugging- Goto Settings > Additional settings > Developer options > USB Debugging and enable it.
3. Enable OEM Unlock – Goto Settings > Additional settings > Developer options > Enable OEM Unlock.
4. Enable MI Unlock- Goto Settings > Additional settings > Developer options >  tap on MI Unlock Status and then tap on Add account and device. This will bind your device with MI account if you don’t have Mi account the make a Mi account using your phone number, not email.

D. Unlock bootloader of Redmi Note 8

1. Shut down your phone manually.
2. Now hold Volume down key and Power button to enter Fastboot mode;
3. Open the platform-tools folder.
4. Inside the folder, hold “Shift” Key then right click and select “Open command Windows here”.
5. The Command prompt will open.
6. Now run the below command. If the driver properly installed it will show your device with some alphanumeric character

   fastboot devices

7. If its not showing your device then there is a driver problem. So install again all those drivers.
8. Now Go to MiUnlock, and click on Unlock
9. Download the Mi Unlock Tool
10. Unzip the Mi Unlock Tool
11. Run the MiFlashUnlock.exe , and sign in with your Mi-Account same as linked with your device
12. Shut down your phone manually.
13. Now hold Volume down key and Power button to enter Fastboot mode;
14. Connect your phone to PC using USB cable and click “Unlock”.
15. Once the unlock process completed just hit the reboot button (You may need to wait 15 days to unlock)

E. Enable USB Debugging

1. Enable Developer option- Goto Settings > About phone > tap MIUI version 7 times.
2. Enable USB Debugging- Goto Settings > Additional settings > Developer options > USB Debugging and enable it.

F. Install TWRP Recovery in Redmi Note 8 and Flash Magisk to Root

1. Now connect your Redmi Note 8 to PC via USB cable
2. Open the platform-tools folder.
3. Inside the folder, hold “Shift” Key then right-click and select “Open command Windows here”.
4. The Command prompt will open.
5. Now switch off your device completely
6. Then press and hold Vol Down and Power button until it boots up in fastboot mode.
7. Now run the below command. If the driver properly installed it will show your device with some alphanumeric character

   fastboot devices

8. Now its time to flash TWRP,  so run this command (Make sure recovery.img file is present in the platform-tools folder )

   fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

9. Once the flashing process has completed, you must boot into TWRP Recovery directly from here
10. So press  and hold Power + Vol UP  button at the same time and release the button once it shows Redmi Logo
11. It will boot into TWRP recovery. And you will get a screen like this
12. First, you need to tap on language and set your language then tap on cancel and swipe to allow modification
13. Now tap on wipe >> Format data
14. Then type yes to format data
15. Once it has done, go to the home screen of TWRP
16. Send a file from PC to mobile by this command (Make sure Magisk-v20.1.zip file is present in the platform-tools folder )

    adb push Magisk-v20.1.zip /sdcard/

17.  Now disconnect your phone from PC
18. Now in TWRP tap on install to flash and flash magisk zip file.
19. Once flashing done tap on Reboot System then tap on Do no install
20. Your phone will boot and it will take some time. You need to set up your phone from scratch
21. Now you have magisk manager app on your phone mean your phone is rooted
22. Install Root Checker and check whether Redmi 8 rooted or not.
