GIMP : Your Photoshop For Linux

I am not a graphic designer but when I design some basic things like a logo or edit a photo I just love Adobe PhotoShop. And many people will agree with me. Adobe PhotoShop is One of the best photo editing application or tool . If you are a fan of Adobe PhotoShop then you should know that Adobe PhotoShop is available in two platform Windows and Mac OS X . I know after knowing this Linux user will be some kind of disappointment. I don’t know why Adobe does not launch PhotoShop for Linux Platform. That’s why Windows is some kind of famous in graphics designing company or they prefer using Mac OS X.

If you are Linux fan and want to use PhotoShop on Linux then you have two options (i) Run Adobe PhotoShop in Linux via wine (ii) Use GIMP , alternative of Adobe Photoshop for Linux.


GIMP is a good graphics manipulation tool. This tool should help you get a taste of what GIMP is capable of.GIMP support lots of file format like TIFF, JPEG, PNG, GIF, PSD and some other like TGA, BMP, XWD, XPM, PIX, CEL, MNG, PPM and PCX. You may need extra plugins to support these file formats.


GIMP is not only for Linux user it also supports Windows , Mac OS X, BSD and Sun OpenSolaris.

SUSE users can install GIMP by running yasti gimp or zypper in gimp, depending on the distribution version.
