How To Root Lenovo P780 Both Jelly Bean & KitKat
Many of you are requesting me how to install custom ROM on Lenovo P780 and the official or Stock KitKat ROM is not good. But recently s227 update is out and its fine still now. But still if you want to try other custom ROM on your Lenovo P780 then you need to first root your device. Root mean gaining some administrative access on you phone. And Here I want to mention than rooting your device violates warranty of your Phone. But in lenovo you can gain it back just by again installing Stock ROM or the official ROM.
So how to root your Lenovo P780 whether 4GB or 8GB version? Rooting you Lenovo P780 is easy and there is no big thing to be scared. Before going to proceed make it clear that procee is different for Kitkat version and jelly Bean version. Don’t apply Jelly bean method on your Kitkat version Lenovo P780 vice versa.
Here I have discuss how to root both KitKat version and Jelly Bean. Try according to your Android Version.

Step 5: iRoot will root the phone and install superuser(Chinese)
Now you have successfully rooted your Lenovo P780 Kitkat version. And you will get three new apps in your phone. You can uninstall those two except blue one which is SuperUser App.
But here is another problem as the Super User app or the above blue app is in Chinese language so I am going to tell you how to make it in English Language. For this you need to do some more work. Here its is
1> Change stock recovery to TWRP Recovery from here
2> Download SuperUser.Zip and place it your Phone internal memory or sd card. ( Don’t unzip it)
2> Switch off your phone and go recovery mode by press and hold “Power + Volume Up + Volume Down” button. In TWRP Recovery it will show like this
3> Now hit Install button, then browse the SuperUser.Zip file that you download in “2>”
4> Just by tapping the SuperUser.Zip file you will see like this, to flash just swipe it as in this pic.
It will take few time to flash. After flashing you will get notification. Now restart your phone. You have successfully flashed SuperUser.Zip.

WOrkig fine …
Can I get stable ROM for lenovo p780 ?
DO you mean by custom ROM?
Superb! Thanks Tanmoy, I tried so many methods to root and yours was the only one that worked! One more thing – how do I get rid of the Chinese SuperUser since I now have the English Superuser?
Install Root Uninstaller to remove the Chinese Superuser. Make sure you use it carefully as it can delete any system app. So delete proper app. It will be best uninstall this after removing the Chinese Superuser.

Hello I have new P780 ver 4.4.2 it works perfectly , but the problem is that I live in Europe and I want to see all menu, settings and etc in my language (Lithuanian language), but then i change language it translates half lithuanian half english e.g most of setting translated in english. I hope You understand me and maybe You could help me to solve the problem. ( I have read about root and reinstall ROM, but I am too afraid to screw up whole phone)
p.s. I think that my phone is for China users because when i connect it with pc the program is all in chinese
You should know that your device is RAW version or CN version before doing any step.
How can I check it?

Dear Sir
I have Lenovo P780 8GB, I guess my phone has some technical issue related to memory as when I go to setting-> storage it shows Built in storage and External Storage and the bifurcation of memory is 2.87 GB Built-in memory and 4.72 GB internal memory
and when I go to File browser it shows Built in Memory (2.87 GB) only where we can access photos songs on phone. where as my phone has 8 GB internal. Please give me some solution for that
Are you on Jelly Bean or KitKat?
“The superuser binary (su) must be updated please choose an installation method”..and when i select install the this error came “there was an error installing superuser please send a log of the error to the developer”
Plz help…I am running kitkat on p780
May I know on which step you are getting this error?
Hi Tanmoy,
I used KingoRoot Kitkat method as described by you in the post. It said ‘Root Succeeded’ in the end. But I am not able to update binaries with SuperSU. It fails everytime. Also when I verify root with root checker it says that root access is not properly installed.
Have you installed SuperSu from Google Play Store?
Yes I did. It was running for 5 mins and than a popup came that update failed.
Hi,
I’m also having the same problem. Already installed SuperSu from Google Play Store. Tried to update binary. I choose “Normal” installation. Then received error – “Installation failed”.
Do i have install custom recovery TWRP/CWM?
Thank you
how to install a custom rom after rooting? please tell me.
You need to get a custom ROM! Make sure you install ROW version custom ROM on ROW device and CN based ROM on CN device. Though you can port CN based custom ROM on ROW device, but you have to be careful during this process.
Here is the guide

Hi,
I tried to root my lenovo p780 android version 4.4.2 with the provided steps above but it didnt worked out. Showing a message of failed rooting always. I’m leaving my email address here. Please try to reply asap.
Thank you.
Are you using a stock ROM? May I know on which step you are facing problem!
Hi, im using ur first method, the Kingo Root. but the result, Root Failed.
Model : Lenovo P780
Android : 4.4.2
Baseband : P780.V24
Build Number : P780_ROW_8G_S228_150112
please advise. thanks.
While using Kingo root make sure your your PC connected to internet and you will get some pop up on your phone… Just grant all those permission. Last you must have installed driver on your PC
hi ,
i have successfuly instaled kingo root,
but when i install super su from google playstore ( supersu) instalation failed , please reboot and try again..
I s that you only copied this method from other websites. You cannot even answer the problem with the SuperSU not being able to update it’s binary. Pathetic.
It’s not always possible to reply each comment. Use KingoRoot to root!
but you never answered the problem . i cant install supersu its mentioning installation failed.plz reboot and try again.answer pz asap.
If you rooted successfully using Kingoroot then you don’t need to install SuperSu as there is by default superSu
