How to Unlock Bootloader Install TWRP and Root POCO X2

Finally, Xiaomi has launched the successor of POCO series phone POCO X2. POCO X2 is not killer of POCO F1 but somewhere it lies between Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 and POCO F1. I have already covered up how to install TWRP and Root Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 like that here you can find out how to install TWRP on POCO X2 as well as install Magisk to get the root access. So if you have POCO X2 and you are very much interested to install TWRP recovery then you can follow this method.

How to Root Xiaomi POCO X2

NOTE: Make a backup of all your data including msg, contacts files, images etc.

A. Download Tools

• Download and install Universal ADB Driver
• Download platform tools
• Download  TWRP Recovery
• Download Magiskmanager apk

B. File Preparation

1. Install the ADB Driver and adb-setup in your PC and reboot it
2. Unzip platform-tools_r29.0.5-windows.zip
3. You will get a folder named platform-tools
4. Now copy-paste the pocox2recovery.img inside the platform-tools folder
5. Copy paste boot.img and MagiskManager.APK files to your Phone

C. Enable USB Debugging, OEM Unlock and bind Mi account with the device

1. Enable Developer option- Goto Settings > About phone > tap MIUI version 7 times.
2. Enable USB Debugging- Goto Settings > Additional settings > Developer options > USB Debugging and enable it.
3. Enable OEM Unlock – Goto Settings > Additional settings > Developer options > Enable OEM Unlock.
4. Enable MI Unlock- Goto Settings > Additional settings > Developer options >  tap on MI Unlock Status and then tap on Add account and device. This will bind your device with MI account if you don’t have Mi account the make a Mi account using your phone number, not email.

D. Unlock bootloader of Xiaomi POCO X2

1. Shut down your phone manually.
2. Now hold Volume down key and Power button to enter Fastboot mode;
3. Open the platform-tools folder.
4. Inside the folder, hold “Shift” Key then right-click and select “Open command Windows here”. or “Open Powershell Window here”
5. The Command prompt or PowerShell window will open.
6. Now run the below command. If the driver properly installed it will show your device with some alphanumeric character

   fastboot devices

7. If it’s not showing your device then there is a driver problem. So install again all those drivers.
8. Now Go to MiUnlock, and click on Unlock
9. Download the Mi Unlock Tool
10. Unzip the Mi Unlock Tool
11. Run the MiFlashUnlock.exe , and sign in with your Mi-Account same as linked with your device
12. Shut down your phone manually.
13. Now hold Volume down key and Power button to enter Fastboot mode;
14. Connect your phone to PC using USB cable and click “Unlock”.
15. Once the unlock process completed just hit the reboot button (You may need to wait 15 days to unlock)

E. Enable USB Debugging

1. Enable Developer option- Goto Settings > About phone > tap MIUI version 7 times.
2. Enable USB Debugging- Goto Settings > Additional settings > Developer options > USB Debugging and enable it.

F. Install TWRP Recovery in POCO X2 and install Magisk to Root

1. Now connect your POCO X2 to PC via USB cable
2. Open the platform-tools folder.
3. Inside the folder, hold “Shift” Key then right-click and select “Open command Windows here”. or “Open Powershell Window here”
4. The Command prompt will open.
5. Now switch off your device completely
6. Then press and hold Vol Down and Power button until it boots up in fastboot mode.
7. Now run the below command. If the driver properly installed it will show your device with some alphanumeric character

   fastboot devices

8. Now its time to flash TWRP,  so run this command (Make sure pocox2recovery.img file is present in the platform-tools folder )

   fastboot flash recovery pocox2recovery.img

9. Once the flashing process has completed, you need to boot into TWRP Recovery 
10. Now again run this command

    fastboot boot pocox2recovery.img

11. It will boot into TWRP recovery. And you will get a screen like this
12. First, you need to tap on language and set your language then tap on cancel and swipe to allow modification
13. Now tap on Backup (Very important )
14. Select all partitions and make a backup. The Backup files will be saved in TWRP folder inside the phone.
15. You must copy-paste the whole folder or Backup files to your PC or Laptop. (In TWRP Mode you can copy files from phone to PC )
16. Once it has done, go to the home screen of TWRP
17. Now in TWRP tap on install then tap on Install Images
18. Browse the boot.img file then select as Boot and finally swipe to confirm flash
19. Once flashing done tap on Reboot System
20. Your phone will reboot twice or thrice and it will take some time.
21. Now you have to install magisk manager apk
22. Install Root Checker and check whether POCO X2 rooted or not.
